For a couple of months, myself and Chris have been teaching the BSAC boat handling course to five members of South Northants branch. They were kind enough to grant us access to their boat in Weymouth and we did this in return.
The theory lessons were held at their branch on their normal club night and we finished those a while ago. Last weekend was the first chance that we could get everyone down to Weymouth to complete the course with the skills lessons.
I hadn't had an opportunity to teach this course for a few years. I had spent a lot of time and money getting my BH approved > instructor status so I was rather annoyed when the boats were taken. I thought I would be a bit rusty. Fortunately it's like riding a bike apart from a couple of technical errors.
The weather was great last weekend, lots of sun and just enough wind to make it enjoyable. The water was 17C and very clear in Portland harbour, such a shame we couldn't dive (it's not allowed during the course and there isn't time). I took Steve and Marc out on Saturday with Mel to help out and on Sunday, Chris joined me with Steve, Neil & Fiona and Mel.
It was great to teach this course again. everyone seemed to > enjoy it and get a lot out of it. Chris will shortly be an BH approved instructor too.
