Arrived at Weymouth 11am after a very leisurely drive down in the morning. Plenty of time to sort kit and meet the Skipper of Tango (the boat) Phil who is very pleasant and accommodating guy. Phil (the skipper) gave us a parking permit which cost 5 pounds for the day, cheaper than normal price! The fact of having two Phils in close proximity on the boat did lead to confusion on occassions but we coped, no point in calling Phil S by his nickname Tango either, even more confusion would have ensued! There were a number of of other divers present, 6 OC and 3 CCR's KISS classics and one Inspiration vision, needless to say the inspiration diver got some serious questioning from Phil. Once all aboard we went to the M2, dropped down the shot in stiff current, finned down to the wreck which is still largely unchanged, loads of fish across the top of the hull, its still upright and other than masses of marine growth looks like it sank yesterday. Good fin around the whole thing, hangar silted out by muppets ahead of us!
After a relaxing lunch we did a drift on the cliffs approx 1mile from Chesil beach known as the aeriels (military aeriels no longe present) wreck of the Gertrude freighter heavily broken along the cliffs. Dropped to 16m to find large boulders and a good current, large plate sections and intact stern with rudder and steering gear, two anchors one small one large clearly more than one wreck down there! Had a bit of a dodge around recently laid lobby pots and thats it!
Top day on what is a very good and well run boat with a very easy going skipper who is interested in you having a good time. Well worth diving off. Thanks Phil for helping this aging dad get in the water again!
