Stoney Cove, 5 October 2008

Divers: Inge, Hugo, Adrian, Phil L, Peter S

Adrian organised a day at Stoney Cove (Leicestershire) so that Phil L could start his Dive Leader drills. Inge and Hugo were along for a dive and I wanted to try out my KISS RB after some improvements.

It was pouring down on the journey up to Stoney but the forecast was for a dry afternoon. We parked in the top car park and had to contend with the tunnel under the road being flooded about 6" deep. It stopped raining as we kitted up which was a relief.

We waited while Phil and Adrian went for their dive then myself, Inge and Hugo went for a dive to 20m around the Stanegarth. Vis was moderate but poor in a couple of places. Lots of fish around and some small crayfish.

It was cold around dinner so it was good to get back in the water to visit the helicopter. The KISS feels a lot better with the tanks the OC way up. The trim and balance is much more like a twinset and it is much easier to tilt head down and to swim with a flat spine. The O2 valve is ok to reach but my left arm doesn't flex as well to reach the dil tank valve. Removing the Portland clamps and using cam bands might improve it.

At the end of the dive I noticed that the sun was shining and we surfaced to a glorious late afternoon. Everyone else had gone home while we had a nice coffee.
